Eyelid Surgery

Due to lack of sleep, your eyes may look puffy, red and tired. But as you age, the puffiness may become permanent, even when you are well rested. With eyelid surgery, Chicago, Itasca and Naperville patients can eliminate this sign of aging, and Dr. Ashpole will find the right treatment to “Freshen up” your look.

Chicago, Itasca and Naperville Eyelid Surgery Candidates

You may be an candidate for this treatment if:
  • Over time your eyes have become droopy or puffy due to excess fat and skin.
  • The skin around your eyes has aged and sags.
  • You are of Asian descent and you desire a more “westernized” look.
However, if your main concerns are the crow’s feet or under eye dark circles, eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty will not reduce or eliminate that.

Having Eyelid Surgery in Chicago, Itasca or Naperville

Before scheduling the eyelid surgery, Dr. Ashpole will spend time with you understanding your medical history, lifestyle, and problem area in order to determine the right treatment for your needs. Depending upon the case, Dr. Ashpole may also advise a brow lift along with the eyelid surgery. For eyelid surgery, Dr. Ashpole can perform this with IV sedation or general anesthesia. If the eyelid surgery is being done in conjunction with a brow or forehead lift, general anesthesia will be administered.

Recovery from Eyelid Surgery in Chicago, Itasca or Naperville

Dr. Ashpole will mark out the excess skin and fat on the upper eyelid. The excess skin and fat on the lower eyelid is also removed with an incision right under your eyelash line. To control the post-operative discomfort he will administer an oral analgesic. Any stitches will be removed after a week of healing. Usually, postoperative swelling and bruising will fade away after two to three weeks. It is advisable to avoid any glittery eye shadows or mascaras until completely healed. Within a week you will expect to see noticeable results and your eyes will look rested and refreshed.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Who is at risk for developing varicose veins?

Women naturally have a higher chance of developing varicose veins, especially women who are pregnant. However, it is important to keep in mind that roughly 42 percent of men experience varicose veins by the time they turn 60. Family history is one of the biggest factors that determine whether or not you will develop varicose veins.

If you don’t get your varicose veins removed, they may result in skin sores, skin ulcers, blood clots or even deep vein thrombosis (DVT). It is best to get your veins treated as soon as possible to reduce your risk of developing complications down the road.

There is a misconception that when Botox is administered, it results in a frozen or numb facial appearance. In simpler terms, patients may feel like they will no longer be able to make facial expressions. This is why it is important to find a qualified surgeon with years of experience administering Botox, as they will be able to judge how much Botox you need and help judge the size of your muscles.

Botox is extremely effective in temporarily reducing wrinkles! Whether you have forehead lines that you don’t like or you want to get rid of frown lines or crow’s feet, the highly purified toxins in Botox can help erase them!

The side effects of Botox in Itasca are typically mild and short-lived. You can expect slight bruising, and, in one to five percent of cases, Botox may cause mild droopiness of the eyelid or the eyebrow. This usually goes away within two weeks.

Though it’s often the best option if your condition has progressed, you can also take measures to avoid varicose and spider veins besides vein treatment. To reduce your chances of developing unsightly veins, it’s important to exercise, avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time, maintain a healthy weight, and/or use compression stockings.
