Cosmetic Procedures to Get Rid of Stretch Marks

Scars are the inevitable outcome of the body’s healing process following an injury. Scars are usually thicker and a different color than surrounding skin, which makes them more noticeable. Stretch marks are a type of scar that manifests when the skin undergoes rapid expansion and contraction, as seen during pregnancy.

Similar to other types of scars, many people find stretch marks to be embarrassing. If you have prominent stretch marks, maybe around your abdomen or chest area, it can make you feel self-conscious. Fortunately, there are procedures to get rid of stretch marks, or at the very least soften their appearance.

Stretch Mark Removal Procedures

While surgical procedures can result in the formation of scars, it’s actually possible to surgically remove stretch marks.

Stretch marks can be targeted with different surgical lifts. For example, a thigh lift in Chicago can address stretch marks on the upper legs and buttocks. If you developed stretch marks from weight gain or pregnancy, a tummy tuck can target marks on the abdomen and hips. While an arm lift can treat stretch marks along the underside of the arms.

It’s important to keep in mind that surgically removing skin to eliminate stretch marks will result in a surgical scar. However, such scars are much less conspicuous than the stretch marks that have been eliminated.

For some people, their stretch marks are thin and only a minor concern. These individuals may not need cosmetic surgery for stretch marks, and instead may opt for non-surgical alternatives.

Some non-surgical treatments that have shown to be effective for removing stretch marks include skin resurfacing, skin tightening, and laser treatment applications.
