Dupuytrens - Northwest Indiana Dupuytren’s Disease
Dupuytren’s disease is a condition where the hand’s connective tissue becomes abnormally thickened. It may cause “pits,” nodules or chords to form in your palm or it may cause your fingers to curl. The condition usually sets in gradually. It may develop in both hands and/or several fingers and usually occurs in people over 50.
Dupuytrens - Northwest Indiana - Treatment
Surgery for this condition involves making several incisions in the skin over the palm and fingers and excising the abnormal tissue. Post-operative therapy is frequently part of the treatment to soften scar tissue and help the fingers regain function.
Surgery does not cure the disease and the remaining tissue may also develop Dupuytrens. Dr. Ashpole will take all measures to ensure that patients regain as much function in their hand as possible.
