Rhinoplasty - Hobart & Munster

With a nose job or rhinoplasty, Hobart & Munster patients can have their noses reshaped to create a more symmetrical and attractive profile. Although, rhinoplasty is often done electively to improve the shape of the nose, it is also indicated to treat birth defects and accident-related deformities.

During a rhinoplasty, Hobart & Munster plastic surgeon Dr. Ashpole can:

  • Effectively change the size of your nose to bring it into better proportion with your other facial features
  • Reshape your nose
  • Resize the nostrils
  • Reshape the abnormal appearance of the nose due to injury, disease or birth defects

Rhinoplasty - Hobart & Munster Candidates

One of the most common reasons people seek a rhinoplasty is to eliminate a “hump” that can be seen in profile. If the tip of your nose is too large or malpositioned this can be corrected. Lastly, if your nose is crooked, often from previous trauma, it can be corrected with surgery.

About Rhinoplasty - Hobart & Munster

The surgery will be performed in different ways depending upon the deformity. With any procedure, the main goal is to manipulate the bone and cartilage to give it a more desirable shape.

There are two types of nose reshaping surgeries – closed and open. Dr. Ashpole will suggest one method based on the individual circumstances and your desired goals.

An open rhinoplasty (which uses a small external incision in the skin) is usually recommended if there are major alterations or corrections to be made. It has earned more popularity over the closed procedure (where the incisions are within the nostril), as it increases predictability and reproducibility of the outcome. The closed procedure is performed by manipulating the tissues of your nose without a direct line of vision.

Recovery from Rhinoplasty - Hobart & Munster

After surgery your nose may be kept in a splint for up to 10 days. Any discomfort can be controlled with ice packs and oral medications. Discomfort, swelling or bruising will subside over a period of 3 to 4 weeks. A week after the surgery, Dr. Ashpole will remove any external sutures. The internal sutures will dissolve over a short period of time.

In the days following surgery you may require help with movement and washing of your face. You will likely require at least one week’s rest before you resume work or moderate activity and a minimum of three weeks will be required for a complete recovery. You will notice most of your desired changes immediately after surgery but the final results may not be completely evident for several months.
