Post Mastectomy Breast Enhancement Munster & Hobart - Nipple / Areola Reconstruction
When it comes to post mastectomy breast enhancement, Munster & Hobart area cancer survivors agree that breast nipple / areola reconstruction can be an important part of the process. Areola and nipple reconstruction is the final step in breast restoration. Some women choose to go without this step to avoid extra surgery, others find it an essential part of their breast reconstruction process.
For women that undergo nipple reconstruction, the procedure is done on an outpatient basis. During the procedure, the patient will be given a local anesthetic to numb the areas where local skin flaps will be designed to create the nipple itself. After the nipple is reconstructed, the surrounding area (or areola) is added with “medical tattooing”.
Nipple and areola reconstruction begins approximately eight to twelve weeks after the breast reconstruction. The patient will also be asked to wait approximately 6 weeks after the nipple reconstruction before Dr. Ashpole can start with the “medical tattooing” process.
The decision to undergo nipple reconstruction is a very personal part of post mastectomy breast enhancement. Munster & Hobart area plastic surgeon Dr. Ashpole understands and will gladly discuss the process with you in a complimentary personal consultation.
